• Graham crackers
  • Any candy/pretzels/teddy grahams/sprinkles/marshmallows
  • Sturdy disposable plate
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon Cream of Tartar
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

We make these fun gingerbread houses every year with my mom just before she makes them with her whole class.  Technically, they aren’t made with any gingerbread, but you’d never know it since they’re completely covered with sweets!  I remember giving one to my grandparents one year and they kept it on a cake stand for years!  They’re so fun to make.  You can get very creative.  Think fruity pebbles as Christmas lights, pretzels to make a log cabin, or ours always has a fish pond with Swedish fish (see below)!

In a large bowl, beat egg whites and Cream of Tartar together until stiff peaks form.  Next, add powdered sugar and beat again.  Refrigerate until ready for use.  Assemble graham crackers to look like a house as pictured in 2nd picture on this post using frosting to hold it together.  One large graham cracker on the bottom, 4 square pieces to make the body of the house, and 2 on the top for the roof.  Allow to harden over night if possible so that it’s strong.  When you’re ready to decorate with all of your goodies, cover the entire house with frosting as well as the bottom of the plate.  Have fun decorating!
